TABLE TALK & COMPLINE
Table Talk & Compline is a gathering for our whole church family with three main focuses: a meal, a discussion, and corporate prayer.
Table Talk is offered on a seasonal basis, but it will always fall on a Wednesday at 6:30pm. Check our calendar to find out when our next Table Talk is happening!
If you plan to join us for an upcoming Table Talk, please register ahead of time. You can find the registration forms linked to each event in our calendar.
A Meal
Meals for Table Talk are done potluck-style. You can participate in the potluck by registering for the event in Church Center, where you’ll find the theme for the meal and detailed instructions.
We know that preparing food for a potluck on a weeknight can be tricky for some. If you aren’t able to buy or prepare anything in advance, please come anyway! We will have enough food for you.
If you have nursery-age children, our nursery is available for from the beginning of the meal to the end of the event. Simply sign them in when you arrive and pick them up after Compline.
A Discussion
After dinner, we move to the discussion portion of the evening. Younger children head outside (weather permitting) for play time with our trained supervisors, while older children and adults head down the hall for discussion. One of our teachers gets the conversation going with a brief talk, then we split into smaller groups to work through guiding discussion questions.
The theme for our discussions this season is hospitality. To guide our conversation, we’ll be reading Mission as Hospitality by Ed Smither. Not only is this an excellent book for our topic, but Dr. Smither also happens to be a professor at CIU and a priest at Church of the Apostles, Columbia. Better yet, for our final session on November 11, Dr. Smither be joining us to speak about the book!
Prayer
Table Talk always ends with Compline, a service of prayer from the Book of Common Prayer. Adults and children gather in the chapel to pray, taking a brief moment to rest from the chaos of the week and offer our prayers.
